Robert Davis’ passion for design and building goes all the way back to his childhood. His father, an aeronautical engineer who designed planes for Douglas Aircraft during World War II, instilled in him the sensibilities of the artist-engineer, sensibilities that would ultimately lead him to his life’s purpose as a builder.
Robert started towards the path of developer/homebuilder in the early 1980’s while attending The University of Texas where he earned his Bachelor of Architecture Degree in 1987. While in Austin he interned for noted developer John Lloyd and then went on to join home builder Doyle Wilson a leader in luxury production homes in the Austin market where he broadened his expertise in product development, in communities such as Brushy Creek, Jester Estates and The Parke. In the early 1990’s Robert returned to his hometown and joined the prominent Houston homebuilder William Carl where he developed and built high end communities in Houston’s most elite neighborhoods like River Oaks and Post Oak Galleria. During this time, Robert’s desire to study and gain insight into Houston’s history of great residential architecture allowed him to collaborate with Carl alongside prominent Houston architect Lucian Hood. The collaboration of these efforts with Carl and Hood culminated in the exclusive enclave of Eaton Square, now a Houston landmark. This extensive access to all facets of design and development proved invaluable, and when Robert felt intimately familiar with all levels of the homebuilding process, he struck out on his own and co-founded Mirador Group in 1996.
Mirador Group would not be the last time he forged his own path in Houston homebuilding. He co-founded Hahnfield Witmer Davis in 1998, and in 2010 formed Davis Builders. Through each evolution, Robert’s commitment to serving his clients’ interests and shepherding them through every aspect of the building process have set him apart from all other Houston home builders. It is with this mindset, and a lifetime of experience, that he has adapted Davis Builders into The Davis Group.
