Raj is the founder of the Server General Inc. - a data encryption service for cloud servers. Server General allows customers to encrypt their sensitive data in less than 30 minutes no matter where the target server is hosted. The data encryption service takes advantage of the open source encryption functionality that is available within the Linux kernel. Erez Zadok, the CTO of the company, wrote the file system for the Linux encryption functionality while pursuing his Ph.D. at Columbia University.

Prior to Server General Raj founded Packet General Inc. to combat the data security threats that emanate from behind the firewall. The idea was to create a server platform that would host a single enterprise application and would disallow the privileged user from viewing the sensitive data sets. The team had deep expertise in cryptographic file systems and data security. We ended up building the industry’s first secure server appliance using our own encrypted file system. The cryptographic file system allowed us to encrypt the sensitive data at inception, advanced access controls protected data against insider attacks and we were able to generate irrefutable access logs. Our appliances eliminated the need for customers to create a patchwork of security solutions in order to secure data and achieve regulatory compliance.

Today Packet General provides a secure MySQL database appliance, a file transfer appliance and a file server appliance with built-in security measures. Large enterprises customers like PayPal, AOL.com, Air Malta, GameSys, MRM Worldwide and many others make use these appliances on daily basis to protect their critical data sets.

Prior Packet General Networks Raj founded HydraWEB Technologies, Inc. - a leading provider of next generation Data Networking traffic delivery devices. The Company’s products were designed to enable Information Service Providers and enterprises to efficiently and consistently deliver content, transactions and services over the Internet. HydraWEB, a load balancing industry pioneer, led the industry with many innovative technologies, including the HydraGPS, the first and only intelligent solution for global traffic delivery developed and deployed in 2000.

HydraWEB introduced its first load balancing device in 1996 and quickly became the industry leader. HydraWEB built multiple product families designed to ensure high-availability, reliability and scalability of its customers’ Web sites. Using an agent-based solution, HydraWEB products were the first to add application awareness to their load balancing capabilities. HydraWEB also offered HydraHydra, a global server load balancing (GSLB) solution that was also the industry’s first GSLB.

HydraWEB was founded by Raj Sharma in 1996 and recorded its first revenue in 1997. HydraWEB’s products were in use in over 15 countries. Market leaders who relied on HydraWEB included Bear Stearns, Bridge Information Systems, British Telecom, Citibank, Deutsche Post, DLJDirect, Dow Jones & Companies, Inktomi, JC Penney, MCI WorldCom, Reuters, PricewaterhouseCoopers, NTT and Deutsche Telecom. HydraWEB had over 140 employees located throughout the U.S., Europe and the Pacific Rim. The Company was financially backed by both institutional and strategic investors.
