KC Digital Drive

We find technology solutions for social and civic problems. KC Digital Drive is the only nonprofit organization chartered to drive positive civic outcomes from next-generation technology networks. We work closely with local city governments and economic development organizations, educators, healthcare professionals, artists, makers, entrepreneurs and other civic partners looking to make the most of Kansas City’s technology infrastructure. OUR STORY It all began in the latter half of 2011. When news came that Google Fiber would be launching its gigabit fiber-to-the-home product in Kansas City, community and civic leaders began discussing what we, as a region, could do with this powerful technology. Alongside organic events and initiatives organized by the Social Media Club of KC, local libraries and schools, Think Big Partners and other grassroots organizations, the two cities of Kansas City, Missouri, and Kansas City, Kansas, and the Mid-America Regional Council came together to draft a playbook for how the gigabit Internet could make Kansas City a better place to live, work and play. Titled "Playing to Win in America's Crossroads," the playbook was released in May 2012, barely a month before the first Google Fiber "fiberhoods" were announced. (Download the playbook as PDF.) Soon after, KC Digital Drive was commissioned to carry out and build upon the playbook. Today, KC Digital Drive is an independent nonprofit organization with many active initiatives in the areas of Economic Development, Digital Inclusion, Next-Generation App Development and Smart City Leadership.
