It is estimated that approximately 30 million Americans play the game of golf. Golf historically is perceived as being a low-risk sport when it comes to injuries. Statistically, about one half of all golfers will suffer a golf injury. Approximately 44 percent of all reported golf injuries in youth are from overuse. According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission), there were more than 55,000 visits to hospital emergency rooms for golf-related injuries in 2009. The main causes of these injuries include: lack of flexibility, poor conditioning, excessive play or practice, poor swing mechanics and ground impact forces.
