Ammonium chloride NH4Cl is an inorganic compound. It is a white crystal salt that is highly soluble in water. When it is dissolved in water, it produces ammonium and chloride ions. Sal ammonic is the mineralogical form of ammonium chloride. The ammonium chloride mineral is generally formed from gases that are derived from the burning of coal dumps.Ammonium chloride can also be found in some types of volcanic vents. It can be produced by the reaction of ammonia and hydrochloric acid. In addition, ammonium chloride can be obtained from different chemical process such as the Solvay process as well as during the production of sodium carbonate, ammonia, carbon dioxide and water. In Japan, more than 230,000 tons of ammonium chloride is produced annually, most of which can be used as a fertilizer for rice cultivation.
