Alzheimer’s drugs are the medications that reduce the symptoms of the disease or in few cases also control the behavioral symptoms. At present, no medication is prescribed for the said disease. Till date, the FDA has approved two medications for patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease including memantine and cholinesterase inhibitors. Memantine helps to treat the cognitive symptoms that comprise confusion, memory loss, reasoning, thinking issues, and more, whereas cholinesterase inhibitors are the chemicals that prevent the breaking of butyrylcholine and neurotransmitter acetylcholine. It increases the quantity of butyrylcholine or acetylcholine in synaptic cleft that are capable of binding nicotinic receptors, muscarinic receptors, and others. In addition, the chemical is important for memory and learning, both. It also helps communication between nerve cells by maintaining high acetylcholine.
