In-Mold Coating or IMC is a complete solution for high value-added technology, economic and ecological technology that gives a combined method of surface improvement of automotive, agriculture machineries, marine, and others. An In-Mold Coating is a technique which is sprayed or painted into the mold prior to the surface. This coating provides decoration, product branding, color, UV protection, as well as scuff protection of the fibers. This is also known as paint in the mold fabrication or PITM. The main reason to use In-Mold Coatings is to save finishing labor because it is used with spray technique which eliminates the labor cost. Furthermore, in-mold coatings have excellent lotion resistance as compared to the post-paint coatings due in part to the spray elastomer itself being more chemically resistant and having a better chemical bonding as well as adhesive strength at the surface. In-Mold Coating processes, are available in several techniques such as water based IMC, solvent based IMC, powder, UV, others. Among all, water based IMC, is highly utilize in automotive interiors using polyurethane which required thin and non-reactive coatings.
