Endoscopy is one of the technologies that have changed the way surgeries and diagnoses of diseases were done. Being minimally invasive, the adoption of endoscopy has been rapid across the globe. Faster recovery, shorter hospital stay, less chances of post surgery infection and smaller scars on the body are key merits driving the demand of endoscopy surgeries. Global endoscopy devices market has been studied from three main perspectives namely device type, applications and geographical location. Endoscopy system includes devices such as endoscopes, operative devices and visualization systems. Although visualization systems account for a larger market share, operative devices segment was found to be the fastest growing segment. Traditionally there were two types of endoscopes namely rigid and flexible, but with the technological advances capsule endoscopes and robot assisted endoscopes are added to the segment. Operative devices include special endoscopic devices such as energy systems, suction/irrigation systems, access devices, operative hand instruments, and other devices (insufflation devices, wound protector, and snares). Operative hand instruments further comprise of various hand held devices such as graspers, forceps, suture passers, scissors and others. Visualization system encompasses the cluster of devices responsible for imaging. These include standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) visualization systems which are further segmented into two dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D) systems. HD endoscopy systems were identified to be the most profitable in the visualization systems segment.
