Scar is a mark on the skin which is formed due to infection, injury, surgery, inflammation of tissue, burns, and acne. Scars can impact an individual's mental and physical well-being, resulting in poor self esteem, altered social interactions, depression, and embarrassment. Scars can be of various sizes, shapes, and colors, depending on the age of scar, site of scar, and family history. Formation of scars is unpredictable and varies from person to person. Certain areas of the body such as the chest, back, ear lobes, and the shoulder are more at risk of scarring as compared to rest of the body. Scars on knees and shoulders can appear stretched or widened due to the healing process which occurs over movable joints.
