Dimer acid, often referred to as dimerized fatty acids, are a class of dicarboxylic acids that are synthesized by clay catalysed oilgomerization of unsaturated fatty acids (C18). Unsaturated fatty acids that form the raw material for dimer acids are obtained from natural sources including tall oil fatty acids, rapeseed oil, cottonseed oil, and soybean oil, among the others. Dimer acid based products find application across a diverse set of industries including paints & coatings, adhesives and oilfield chemicals among the others. Depending on the purity of the final product and the processes to which it is subjected to, these dimer acids may be standard, distilled and distilled & hydrogenated dimer acids. The primary application areas of dimer acids include reactive polyamides, non-reactive polyamides, oilfield chemicals, and other miscellaneous applications such as lubrication, metal working fluids, etc.
