It always gives you something different when connected to French in many ways. Try listening to any French songs or watching any French movies and you will know what we’re talking about. It’s like a simple tell-it-like-it-is as they usually give a unique cinematic and a musical experience which are not only meant to entertain but also want to express their artistic touch in pure honesty. Watching a French movie is like watching yourself, your daily activities that aren’t always filled with the “cliché” conflicts all the time. The same thing goes when listening to French music. The imagination from it is different. You can never avoid your imagination about Waltz, summer in Paris, people greet Bonjour! to you while passing by. It’s often difficult to bag the French music into any particular box of genre. But uniquely, jazz has always been the perfect companion to it, often completing each other, creating the whole new level of musical experience. Unfortunately we don’t find this often in the current music scene. We miss it from time to time. What could be better than having the real French to bring the real nuance of Paris’ romanticism? Thank God for having Jacques Pellarin and his group, Jacques Pellarin Trio. They stunned us a year ago with the album which took a visit to American music, more specifically the Sound of Philly entitled “Sound of Philadelphia.”

On January 18th, 2011 Orquesta GarDel will release Lo Que Tú Querías, its self-produced debut EP. The title, which translates as "what you wanted," refers to the fulfillment of two long-standing dreams for the band: to capture its artistry in a recording and to present a catalog of all-original songs instead of covers. Each of the EP's four tracks presents a different side of the band, from the elegiac cha-cha-chá "Gracias Te Doy" to the edgy, Cuban timba-infused titular track. As a whole, Lo Que Tú Querías is an exciting showcase for GarDel's founding principles: hard-hitting, modern salsa executed by a top-notch ensemble of percussion, horns, and vocals. The self-released EP will be available in CD and digital formats, both online and in local music stores. It features production and mixing from the band's own members, mastering from Brent Lambert of The Kitchen, and is unique in being funded entirely by online fan donations via Kickstarter.com.

Inspired by someone close to her, Enneagram Records artist Lezlie Revelle’s new single release Soldier Come Home is an original composition that reflects Lezlie’s heart and sense of compassion. Missing this person Lezlie felt helpless. “All I had was a song. So I shared it and was reminded that I am not alone in the desire to see someone I love come home safely.” Produced by Max Berry, and featuring an outstanding ensemble of Kansas City’s finest musicians, Soldier Come Home is a tribute to the men and woman who protect our freedoms.

The holidays are no time for rest, especially if you're an international artist, a singer/songwriter and a chef to boot. Maya Solovey will be taking the city of New York by storm during December with four performances, which will be a combination of public and private shows. On December 15th and 21st, Solovey will perform at the Trump Apartments in Manhattan. She then performs at the LIC Bar (45-58 Vernon Blvd, Long Island City, NY) on December 20th at 9:00 p.m. And on December 29th, Solovey will, in collaboration with Chef Mark Fahrer, present one of her culinary concerts in which the menu enhances the musical performance.
