On June 20, 2016, President Barack Obama announced a $70M million federal award to the Smart Manufacturing Leadership Coalition (SMLC), an industry-led national non-profit, to create a nationwide Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute. The Institute, which will include System Insights' involvement, will fuel industry growth and innovation nationwide with more than $140 million in public-private investment geared toward developing advanced manufacturing technology and a supporting workforce and education pipeline. The announcement was made at the Select USA Summit in Washington, D.C.

System Insights announced their participation in IMTS 2016 at Chicago's McCormick Place, September 12-17, 2016.

System Insights (SI) announced that company founder and Chief Strategy Officer, Will Sobel, will be speaking at the first NSF Cybermanufacturing Workshop on June 2nd, 2016. The workshop is on enabling composable and modular manufacturing through abstractions. In the talk, titled Composable Interoperability, Mr.Sobel and Saigopal Nelaturi from PARC, will make the case that composable interfaces and information models must be treated as first-class objects during system design and manufacturing.

System Insights (SI) announced that company founder and Chief Strategy Officer, Will Sobel, will be giving three talks in Dallas at the MC2 Conference on April 19th and April 21st, 2016. In the general session, titled "SpecOps", Mr. Sobel will be discussing the current DMDII Project, "Self-Aware Manufacturing with MTConnect". The goal of the project is to show how standards and interoperable services can be composed to solve complex problems like dynamic scheduling and planning with pluggable components. The project will make use of process analytics capabilities of VIMANA by System Insights.

System Insights (SI) has been awarded a national contract research award by The Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDII). The DMDII, a UI LABS collaboration, announced that it has issued six national contract research awards, including funding to test and aid compliance with the nation's cybersecurity standards for digital manufacturing. The projects span several digital manufacturing disciplines, but each reflects the core mission of DMDII: propelling the field of American digital manufacturing and design forward.
