Moy Ortiz

Moy Ortiz has been singing harmony all his life. From his earliest years in primary school to his final year in the Ateneo de Manila University, Moy has sung in choirs. As a chorister, he has performed all over the world with the Ateneo College Glee Club and the UP Concert Chorus.
After an eye-opening summer jazz workshop at the famed Manhattan School of Music, he joined the voice deparment and vocal performance workshop faculty of The Music Studio of Ryan Cayabyab in Manila and taught there for eight years.



At about the same time, he, along with 11 friends from his university choir years, formed a chamber vocal ensemble called "The CompanY". After 30 years and 24 studio albums that have garnered 46 music industry awards, The CompanY has become the Philippines' premiere vocal group. Currently, Moy is the artistic director, musical director, composer and vocal arranger of that group.
Through the years, he has delved into album and concert production. His efforts as a performer, songwriter and record producer have won him several Awit, Katha, Guillermo Mendoza, Star Awards for Music and Aliw Awards for compositions, arrangement works and recording performances, culminating in Album of the Year Awards from the Awit, Katha and Catholic Mass Media Awards.
Moy has also worked on musical plays (Fiddler on the Roof, CATS, the zarzuela “Paglipas Ng Dilim” and a Filipino Original musical by APO’s Jim Paredes, “Bayani”, commercial jingles, stage direction, vocal coaching , script writing and as a voice talent. He has assumed the role of executive producer and line producer in the last eight major concerts of The CompanY. Moy was also the label manager of Pop Art Music/ Viva

Records whose artists include Bituin Escalante, Pops Fernandez, Dexter and The CompanY. Moy is behind the pop classic hits: Pagdating ng Panahon, Everlasting Love, Pakisabi Na Lang, Akala Mo, Baka Ikaw, Kaya Pala, Puso sa Puso, Muling Aawit Ang Pasig, etc.

As a record producer, Moy has produced for the hit albums of Sarah Geronimo, Rachel Anne Go, Christian Bautista, Aiza Seguerra, Agot Isidro, Tria Bascon, Jose Mari Chan, Tricia Amper Jimenez and the R&B group 17:28 (just to name a few). Moy has also co-produced in the hit albums of Aiza Seguerra, Bituin Escalante, Pops Fernandez and Dexter under his label Pop Art Music (Viva Records). Moy has also produced and composed several commercial and corporate jingles for Ayala Malls’ Glorietta, I-Remit, Johnson and Johnson, Nescafe, Jollibee, Sun Life Canada, Avon, KFC, Panasonic, Maria Clara Sangria, Pentel pen, Shangri-La Plaza Mall, Ovaltine, Global Bank, Airlift Asia, Johnson and Johnson, National Sports Commission, Eidel Fitre Celebrations, Philippine Convention and Visitors Corporation, etc.

Moy (with The CompanY) has also had the pleasure of working with international acts like The Manhattan Transfer (three times), Ambrosia, John Ford Coley, David Pomeranz, Jim Brickman, Noel Pointer, David Pack, Yutaka Yokokura, Singapore’s Dick Lee, Steve Tyrell, BASIA, The Idea of North and Janis Siegel (Manhattan Transfer). ? ?

In 2006, Moy wrote, produced and appeared in an instructional audio / video kit on vocal warm ups and workouts for contemporary pop singers, a first of its kind in Philippine recording, entitled “Singing Like A Champ: Vocal Warm up/ Workout with The CompanY” to be released by Viva Records. This was the year where Moy was also part of the music faculty of the talent search hit television show – Pinoy Dream Academy Season 1.

Moy has won the Awit Award for “Best Vocal Arrangement” five times for various recording projects through the decades.

Every summer in the Philippines (April and May) , Moy has been teaching a vocal performance workshop at the defunct UMPI (2006) and presently Trumpets Playshop (2007 to present:2015). The highly successful workshop entitled “Starpower” caters to the children, teens, young adults and adults markets.

In 2012, Moy Ortiz together with his singing partners in The CompanY have become part of the music faculty of the Asian Academy for Television Arts.
