Bertha Freeman Barrett

Bertha Freeman-Barrett the creator and host of INTAKE Talk Show. She is no stranger to being in the forefront and has an extensive history in entertainment. She is most known as a Christian vocalist and motivational speaker. Bertha is also an author and is currently revising her book "Just Believe" to incorporate what she has learned throughout her academic studies about the power of the human psyche. She has always known her purpose in life was to serve and assist others in reaching their fullest potential. Earlier in her career as a vocalist she opened performances for famous Blues Singers "Bobby Womack, Millie Jackson, Bobby Blue Band, and the Manhattans; she has performed in the off-Broadway theatrical play "Mamma I want to sing" with Stage Aurora, "Ain't No Time to Lie Down" with A Lil Boy Dreamin Productions and has at times performed between acts at various theatrical performances. She has always been determined to live life to its fullest without any limitations and utilize every gift she has been given to empower and encourage others.

After working in corporate America for over 18 years, and assisting her daughters through college, Bertha decided it was her time to step out and further her passion for empowering others and contributing to the health and wellness of her community. Bertha understands the importance of caring for one's mental and emotional health, and how society and culture can affect the well-being of one's cognitive state. As an African-American woman, mother, wife, career woman, and one with many titles that come with being connected to family and other relationships; she realizes the stress of trying to balance life, living up to cultural standards, overcoming the societal stigmas associated with her identity, and yet maintaining autonomy and self-harmony.

Bertha has a Master's of Arts Degree in Clinical Mental Health from Webster University. She completed a Baccalaureate degree from the University of Phoenix in Psychology. She is certified in trauma from the International Association of Trauma Professionals to assist survivors and victims with recent, current or past trauma. She works with adolescents, families, and individuals to promote optimum mental and emotional health. She is also a firm advocate against domestic violence, and passionate about educating, empowering, and assisting clients and individuals alike to live their best lives. She firmly believes that one's life and reality is created in the mind, and when mental wellness is not a priority there is a higher probability of experiencing cognitive distortion.

Her therapeutic orientation is eclectic as she believes that no one clinical intervention suites all. "Every client is different, so to best meet their individual needs it is important to understand various therapeutic theories and philosophies." Her love of the arts, passion towards assisting individuals to become self-aware through acknowledging their self-worth, self-efficacy, and purpose in life, is partly what inspired her to develop INTAKE. In addition to being one who has always been intrigued by what inspires people to think and behave in various ways. Since becoming a therapist she realizes the need for educating people on the importance of taking responsibility for their mental and emotional wellness, and hopes to utilize INTAKE as one of many platforms to accomplish this.
