AIIMS Patna is an autonomous institute of national importance under the PMSSY, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It started its operations on 25 September 2012 with a vision to provide tertiary healthcare, medical education & training in the state of Bihar. It is spread over a sprawling campus of 134 acres and houses a medical college with a yearly intake of 125 students, nursing college with yearly intake of 75 students, an 820 bedded hospital, a separate trauma & emergency wing, 11 well-furnished hostels for students and resident doctors, a post-office, and Phulwarisharif branch of Bank of India. The campus also has a helipad, a cricket ground, a football ground, a basketball court, a volleyball court,state of art Auditorium. Other than the undergraduate medical (MBBS) and nursing courses (BSc nursing), the institute also offers various post-graduate and post-doctoral courses. The first batch of MBBS students joined in 2012, BSc nursing in 2013, MD/MS in Jan 2019 and DM/MCh in July 2019. There are four lecture theatres in the medical college building, all equipped with central air conditioning, projectors, and state-of-the-art audio-visual tools. A separate e-classrooms has been created to facilitate distance learning and promote the inter-institutional and international exchange of knowledge. The institute has 23 specialty departments (Departments of; Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pathology, Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Community and Family Medicine, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, ENT, Pediatrics, General Medicine, General Surgery, Radiodiagnosis, Radiotherapy, Anaesthesia, Ayush, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Blood bank & Transfusion medicine, and Trauma & Emergency). It also has 11 super-specialty departments (Departments of Burns & Plastic Surgery, Cardiology, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery (CTVS), Gastroenterology, Neurology, Neonatology, Gastro-Intestinal Surgery, Neurosurgery, Paediatric Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Urology). The departments at AIIMS, Patna have a team of medical professionals fully dedicated to providing the best healthcare services to the patients. There are currently 800 beds at the hospital, as well as 28 functional modular operating theatres, advanced ICUs, round the clock availability of blood bank as well as an oxygen tank with a 30,000-kilogram capacity with centralised oxygen supply system. Distinguished facilities at AIIMS Patna include mobile CT Scan, 4K Laparoscopic system, AI-based Robotic endoscopic microscope, Plastic surgery with Laser, 3T MRI, Biplane DSA lab, OCT & FFR system, Endoscopic ultrasound, Heart-Lung machine, etc. The hospital at AIIMS, Patna took the lead role in fighting the COVID pandemic during the 1st and 2nd waves. It was designated as the center for excellence for COVID management. It treated more than 8000 moderate to severe COVID patients. It also served the people as a COVID dedicated hospital between July 2020 and Dec 2020. Additionally, as part of its outreach program, the Institute runs Chhattisa, a telemedicine program that has conducted over 100 health camps across India. Previously known as Jaya Prakash Narayan All India Institute of Medical Sciences (JPNAIIMS), All India Institute of Medical Sciences Patna (AIIMS Patna) is a Hospital, Medical College, and Medical Research Institution situated in the Phulwari Sharif area in the capital city of Patna, Bihar. On 2nd July, 2013, the Act (Amendment) 2012 was passed, creating AIIMS Patna by ordinance dated 16th July, 2012. After AIIMS Delhi, the Government of India decided to set up five new AIIMS across India in 2004, and AIIMS Patna was one of them. The foundation of the Institute was laid by Bairon Singh Shekhawat(Former Vice President) on 3rd January 2004. There were six new AIIMS that had been developed and were being managed by PMSSY (Prime Minister Swasthya Surakhsa Yojana). The AIIMS project started in 2010 under the Project Monitoring Unit of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with other AIIMS across the country. The Hospital is well developed now. AIIMS caters approximately 1500 outpatients per day. Every medical department at AIIMS has its own OPD block and runs 3 major state of the art semi-modular operation theaters, and two minor operation theaters. All Operation theatre performs more than 250 surgeries per month. It offers an onsite laboratory that runs around the clock as well as world-class radiology, such as CT, MRI, Biplane DSA, Digital Mammography, Digital Radiography, and Ultrasound with Color Doppler. AIIMS Patna has a team of best doctors to provide quality treatment in Bihar. The hospital comprises a total of 42 departments that includes- Department of Cardiology, Urology, Neonatology, Pharmacy, Engineering, Ayush, Surgical Oncology, Information Technology, Trauma and Engineering, Ophthalmology, Transfusion medicine & Blood bank, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Radio therapy, Radio diagnosis. Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Physiology, Orthopedics, Microbiology, General Surgery, Dermatology, Burns & Plastic Surgery, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Anesthesiology, and more. Along with existing departments, the institute is looking forward to recruiting more faculty in order to start new departments.These departments at AIIMS have teams of medical practitioners who are dedicated to provide the best medical service for the patients. As part of its outreach program, the Institute runs Chhattisa, a telemedicine programme which has conducted over 100 health camps. Talking about COVID-19 precautionary and combating measures, various measures are being taken to combat the current pandemic using the Covid-19 model at the hospital. AIIMS Patna follows proper guidelines to control the spread of infection, keeping in mind the virus' potential for spreading in health care facilities. AIIMS Patna follows standard precautionary measures and transmission-based precautionary measures at all times to prevent the spread of infection. A standard precaution is a simple infection control measure that applies to all patients, irrespective of diagnosis or infectious condition, at any time. To prevent and control infection due to the COVID-19, additional precautions are taken apart from Standard precautions. The infection is transmissible through droplets and contact, so droplet and contact precautions are also followed at AIIMS Patna. Taking these measures can prevent cross infections throughout the health care system and among patients. AIIMS Patna with such precautionary measures and multidisciplinary approaches is leading the way towards fighting against Covid-19. Talking about the medical college, AIIMS Patna is a residential medical institute with undergraduates, post-graduates, and Doctoral courses. The medical college includes various preclinical, para-clinical, and clinical departments. Each department has its own seminar rooms and well-equipped laboratories. The medical college has a total of four lecture theatres on its premises. All of them are equipped with centralized air conditioning, projectors, and many other technologically advanced facilities. It also comprises e-classrooms for conducting various seminars. AIIMS Patna is a medical institution dedicated towards providing you the best technologically advanced high quality treatment and education in Bihar. The institute is spread over 134 acres, comprising the main medical college campus on 100 acres and residential campus on 34 acres. AIIMS provides hostel facilities to students across all academic levels from undergraduates to postgraduates and for senior residents. There have been five batches of MBBS students so far, each with 100 students (except the first batch, which had 50). The first batch has begun its internship now. A separate nursing college houses 60 BSc nursing students each year. In addition to academics, AIIMS also focuses on recreational facilities for students that have developed over time. The institute governing body comprises various committees including standing finance committee, standing academics committee, Research committee, stem cell committee, Anti- ragging Squad, Anti- sexual harassment cell, UG (Curriculum implementation) committee, and HR sub committee of AIIMS Patna.
