... and then, Angels descended is a ground-breaking, empathy-driven, social-change micro-volunteering nonprofit that seeks to harness the true potential of modern social media networking platforms to bring significant, tangible and lasting changes to the lives of individuals experiencing crisis, isolation or a lack of access to healthy support systems and resources — while formally training, leading and growing a worldwide on-line registry of on-call “Angel” volunteers for support missions, in order to promote the concepts and execution of empathy, oneness, non-judgment and brotherhood. There is a deficit that has no relation to things like international trade policies or governmental budgets. A deficit that plays its card at the table, in almost every world crisis that urgently needs solving. Yet few are talking about it, let alone can identify what it is. It is our belief that humanity is inherently hard-wired to be good natured. However our wiring changes from the fallout of a complex web of psychosocial, geopolitical and technological forces that are tearing apart the societal “glue” that holds the civility and rationality of our world, together. It is “the engine that drives all the best in us.” — Meryl Streep: empathy. In 2010, the University of Michigan released the results of a study, that analyzed data on empathy, based on a review of 72 studies comprising over 14,000 college students, over the last 30 years, concludes that empathy is severely declining among today's youth – in fact, it's down 40%, taking its largest recorded drop since the year 2000. Another study covering the same time period showed self-absorption has reached new heights, a development that is tied to our increasing inability and unwillingness to empathize with others. Many aren’t even aware, that President Obama formally declared an empathy deficit in the U.S. We crowdsource and magnify a dwindling, yet vital human capacity and resource, through feature-rich, large-scale deployable technologies to train volunteers, HOW to effectively help others, that reflect the universal concepts of our charter. Our NPO takes our Angel-training & procedural cues from the world’s foremost leading social and empathic revolutionaries, cultural thinkers, renowned authors and TED speakers such as Simon Baron Cohen, Brene? Brown, Jeremy Rifkin, Roman Krznaric (founder: The Empathy Library), Karla McLaren & Helen Riess: on the urgent, high-stakes need for a massive-scale, worldwide sea-change culture shift: the need for an empathy revolution.
