Halfway There

An overview of the national statistics for substance abuse shows how prevalent it is in our society. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA's) National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 23.5 million persons aged 12 or older needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol abuse in 2009. And out of these, only 2.6 million, which makes it a nominal number, of 11.2 % who needed treatment and received it at a specialty facility. Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders has used the term substance abuse as an umbrella to include drug abuse and other things.
