Today in the 427th District Court of Travis County, Texas, after about an hour and a half of deliberation, a Jury came back with a finding of Not Guilty on all three charges against Humberto Gomez-Solorzano of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Mr. Gomez-Solorzano had been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon on June 12, 2009 after a fight broke out at the apartment complex where he and his family lived. It was originally alleged that Mr. Gomez-Solorzano and his brother had assaulted 3 females and another male. Testimony during the trial, including 3 eye-witnesses put on by the Austin criminal defense lawyers who were never interviewed by the 6 APD officers who arrived on the scene, testified that Humberto Gomez-Solorzano acted in defense of a third person when he came out to try and protect his brother who was being assaulted by 4 assailants. Despite testimony from the 3 victims, all females, the Jury came back with a quick Not Guilty verdict. Lead Counsel for defense, Austin attorney Jeff Peek and his partner John Stephen Toland represented Humberto Gomez-Solorzano, and Assistant District Attorneys Jeremy Sylestine and Jaime Slaughter of the Travis County District Attorney’s office, prosecuted the case for the State.
