Obits Pty Ltd was established in the latter part of 2005 to develop and operate the website www.obits.com.au. Obits.com.au is a national Australian website which displays death, funeral and obituary notices. It contains a search facility whereby a visitor may enter the name of a deceased person and find details of his or her death and funeral. A visitor may also search for a funeral home. Where the funeral director has provided a web address, the visitor is able to link directly to that website, and also email the funeral director directly from the Obits website. This website is unique in Australia, as it is the only website which lists, on a national basis, current notices from every state in one centralised, easy to search, location. Furthermore, family members are able to add to the details contained in the notice, and a photo may be added.
