According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Americans spent $1.6 million on cosmetic surgical procedures in 2012, with breast augmentation being the preferred treatment. Liposuction came in second with tummy tucks coming in fifth, and popular nonsurgical procedures in 2012 included Botox, laser hair removal and chemical peels. Recent statistics released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery revealed that more than 1.6 million cosmetic procedures are performed each year in the U.S. The data also indicated that 283,735 liposuction procedures were performed in 2012, and approximately 128,000 tummy tucks were done in the same period.
