GM will be adding around 1,200 new jobs and bring back 1,300 laid-off workers. The new workers will be paid about $14 per hour, which is half the rate of the returning workers.

GM’s plant at Toledo is getting around $204 million and is expected to generate 250 jobs. Its plant in Blowing Green will get $131 million in investment and bring about 250 jobs to the community.

U.S. automakers are expected to hire around 36,000 workers by 2015 to cope with increasing demand. The estimate comes from Sean McAlinden, the chief economist of Center for Automotive Research.
