The Great Race starts in Traverse City, Michigan. From there, it will run north along Lake Michigan to the Upper Peninsula, cross into Canada at Sault Ste. Marie, then travel east along the north shore of Lake Huron, south toward Lake Ontario and east toward the crossing back into the United States at Thousand Islands, then back west along the south shore of Lake Erie and toward its finish line in the Detroit area. In all, the race will cover 2,000 miles, cross four states and one Canadian province, and afford sights of all five Great Lakes.

The name and concept of Earth Day was allegedly pioneered in San Francisco, the City of Saint Francis, patron saint of ecology, in 1970. Earth Day is now coordinated globally and is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year and led to the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. And in 2009, the United Nations designated April 22 as International Mother Earth Day.

Last month at the American Trucking Association’s 2012 Annual Technology & Maintenance Council Meeting a task force was formed to study the advancements in cleanable and reusable air, fuel, hydraulic, coolant & lube filters for class 6, 7, & 8 vehicles. The TMC Task Force, chaired by Karl Dedolph, will submit a recommendation when completed to their members and the trucking industry for a ballot request to become a Recommended Practice (RP).
