Get the Money out of Politics to Bring Back Fairness

LogoIt used to be one person one vote. Now it is billions of dollars and buy the election. We have to change that. In his new book OCCUPY WE THE PEOPLE DECISION TIME FOR AMERICA, noted author and economist, Victor Weintraub, examines this situation. After the Citizens United Supreme Court decision the problem has worsened. Now at an extreme, money is unlimited and unregulated. Not only are corporations and other groups able to spend immense sums but it is also common for the givers to be unidentified. Dark money from whoever.

What Happened to Greece. Is the US Close Behind

LogoOUPA!! We all remember Zorba dancing and drinking in the Greek sun. Everyone had fun and a good time. Unfortunately the Greek economy these days is not having a good fun time. The Greek sovereign debt has soared to levels out of proportion with the Greek economy. The government runs at a huge deficit. Unemployment is well over 20%. The government, as part of the Euro currency block, is no longer able to borrow. They have asked the other members of the Euro currency block for assistance; they asked for a bailout. The response came back that assistance would be dependent on an austerity program. The problem is that you can only do so much austerity when the people are marching in the streets and keep voting against austerity.

Too Big to Fail Bank Subject of Senate Hearing

LogoJ. P. Morgan Chase Chief Executive Jamie Dimon testified before a Senate Committee, Wednesday June 10. He said that he could not defend how a hedging strategy in a London office of the bank caused a multibillion dollar trading loss. This statement by the Chief Executive of Chase underscores the obvious fact that the big banks are far too large and far too diverse to be managed well. They are so far-flung geographically and in so many different, and often competing businesses to make management reasonable and effective.
