President's Commission on Goals: Gulf Oil Crisis Requires Public Goals

LogoSince consent of the governed is democracy’s guiding principle, how do we involve citizens once again in their government and gain consent of the governed? As we mentioned in our Franklin Press column on Notes on Quotes, we think it is time to establish a President’s Commission on National Goals to get citizens involved in setting goals for the future in areas like the Gulf oil crisis.

Practicing Walt Disney's Law of Doing the Impossible

Logo"If you can dream it, you can do it. It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” This quote is by Walt Disney (1901-1966). He was an animator, theme park designer, film director, producer, and business leader. In an age of great challenges, we need to understand Walt Disney’s law of doing the impossible, which involves doing the impossible through following your dream, using your creativity and overcoming impossible situations with imaginative solutions. This was covered recently in our column in the Franklin Press in Franklin, North Carolina. We have been pleased that our column has also been covered on the Walt Disney Newswire, Fantasia Newswire, Roy Disney News, SBWIRE and Topix. We remember Walt Disney’s many successful productions: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Fantasia, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, and many others. One of his greatest dreams was the opening of Disneyland in 1957 in California. What child or adult has not been impacted by his creativity? He made it seem easy, but behind the scenes were events that would have destroyed those without a determined dream.

The General Petraeus Law of Effective Leadership

LogoIs modern leadership failing? In an age of rapid change leaders use the same unsuccessful strategies over and over again and are surprised when the strategies continue not to work. Our leadership need to study the Petraeus Law of Leadership based on our quote and column recently published in the Franklin Press in Franklin, North Carolina. The Law of Turnaround Leadership involving leaders learning from past mistakes and creating a new workable path is in our opinion the most difficult concept of leadership that effective leaders must master.

History in the Balance: Jobs Contract for America?

LogoOver the last 15 years, we have let manufacturing, and the many jobs manufacturing produces, leave our country. This was due to excessive free-trade when other nations were not reciprocating. The stimulus package (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) was enacted in February of 2009 and was a patchwork of federal stimulus money. However, for the most part, one reads the bill in vain to find an economic strategy that does much more than save jobs. There has been disappointment in the promised creation of new jobs, as employment levels keep going higher. A major flaw of the bill is that it does not connect well with economic areas where job growth is possible.
