According to a 2015 study sponsored by technology giant IBM, the average cost of a data breach is $3.8 million. Since 2013, the cost incurred by a business owner for each lost or stolen record increased six percent from $145 to $154. Unfortunately, 43 percent of companies have experienced a data breach in the past 12 months, which means that they are becoming more common with each passing year.
