Motorists of a certain vintage will remember the introduction of the Princess. Making its debut in 1975, the Princess caused something of a sensation with its modern shape. It quickly became known as the 'Wedge' due to its space-age profile - high at the haunches and then moving towards a low and elegant nose. The Princess was brought in to replace the ageing 1800, a car whose looks could perhaps be described as 'challenging'. The 1800 also became known as the Land Crab because of its rather quaint way of moving along the road in a sideways fashion due to some classic British Leyland engineering.
