National Infertility Awareness Week takes place April 20th through April 26th. Started in 1989, this week is dedicated to educating those who are experiencing fertility problems to seek help through medical professionals, educating others about infertility and educating legislators about the condition. Research indicates that 10-15% of American women suffer from infertility.

April is Women's Eye Health and Safety Month sponsored by Prevent Blindness America. They encourage women to stop smoking, maintain a healthy and nutritious diet and exercise regularly to prevent obesity and diabetes which can result in eye complications. Eye disorders can happen to anyone living anywhere in the world. There is not one segment of society that is immune, or one geographical location where the people are more likely to encounter vision problems.

According to the CDC, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States. The American Cancer Society specifies different types of cancers to be highlighted for awareness during every month of the year. In April, cancer awareness is being raised for testicular cancer, esophageal cancer and head and neck cancer.

Colorectal cancer strikes between 200 thousand and three million people in the U.S. annually. Considered mostly a "Western" disease, this killer is less likely to affect the people of Asia and Africa because of the limited fat content in their diet. President Clinton declared March to be Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and during the month of March people are asked to wear the color blue because a blue star has been designated as the symbol to not only fight against colorectal cancer, but as a tribute to those whose lives have been lost to the disease.
