Memo Gidley, in the #42 Team Sahlens Mazda RX-8 with co-driver Wayne Nonnamaker, started the weekend in Birmingham’s picturesque Barber Motorsports Park in strong fashion. Gidley would run third in the final practice session of this past weekends’ Porsche 250 before his co-driver would qualify the car in a very strong fourth starting position for the race. Nonnamaker would hold onto his Top-5 position for much of his stint before turning the wheel over to driving talents of Gidley. The tandem would encounter some mid race issues that forced them to finish outside of the Top-10 in the final results, in 11th position, for the first time in the 2011 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series season. They are currently in a three-way tie for seventh place in the overall Grand Touring Class Team Championship standings.

P1 Groupe driver Mike Sweeney goes into this weekends’ Barber 200 at Barber Motorsports Park for the third round of the 2011 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series with Brian Lock in a brand new Nissan 370Z for the Grand Sport class, and have their site set on a strong debut.

Owen Trinkler heads into familiar territory this weekend as he and his #198 RSR Motorsports squad embarks on the third round of the 2011 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series at Barber Motorsports Park for the Barber 200. Trinkler shares his #198 Mini Cooper S with the up-and-coming Sarah Cattaneo, and the tandem is currently enjoying a solid start to the season as they sit in third place in the Team Championship standings, a mere one point out of second place, following their impressive third place podium finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway on March 5th.

Scott Wimmer went into the Scotts EZ Seed 300 at Bristol this past weekend with a great deal of confidence.

Spaude is in his second full season with the Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT), which earlier this season debuted their new Subaru WRX-STi featuring the Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive.

P1 Groupe driver, Bret Spaude of Bushnell, Florida is looking to build on a strong run at the Daytona International Speedway for the opening round of the 2011 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series, where the Subaru Road Racing Team debuted their new 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI. The track doesn’t suit the all-wheel drive car as some of the others on the 2011 calendar, nonetheless the team went to work and came away with a 13th place finish in one of the more competitive classes in all of GRAND-AM racing.

NASCAR star, Scott Wimmer, and the entire racing team of Key Motorsports were excited to be back in Daytona to race in NASCAR’s Drive4COPD 300 in the new #40 Chevy Impala this past weekend. They would face an uphill battle to keep up with the changes to the restrictor plates as NASCAR tried to eliminate the 2-car drafting which proved to be the quickest way around the circuit. A number of these changes were to take place at a moments’ notice, and kept the team hard at work. The team handled their task and never missed an on-track session.
