The term Bihu originated from the Sanskrit word that means 'Vishu'. Bihu is one of the popular Assamese festivals in India. The Indian state of Assam is known for beautiful scenery, lush green forests, the mighty Brahmaputra River and tea gardens. This state is also known for the very popular Bihu festival. This festival signifies a set of three different cultural festivals of the state. Bihu is celebrated by local communities irrespective of creed, caste and beliefs.
