Faulty Boiler Implicated in Tragic Death of Children Aged 6 and 7

An expert witness at a fact-finding inquiry into the tragic deaths of two children whilst on holiday in Corfu in 2006 has explained how a dysfunctional boiler with inadequate safety protections led to their tragic deaths. Robert and Christianne Shepherd, aged 6 and 7 were on holiday with family when they suffered from fatal levels of carbon monoxide poisoning. Whilst their mother bravely continues her campaign into the investigation of their deaths, the Court has heard how a faulty boiler led to the toxic levels of carbon monoxide poisoning which also left the children's mother in a coma.

The importance of having an efficient boiler has been made evident by the recent news regarding the installation of a new boiler at PluscardenAbbey, near Elgin, Scotland at the end of 2012. The Abbey is a monastery, the oldest occupied in Britain, with 22 Benedictine monks in residence. Before the new boiler installation, the previous gas-run system was costing about £40,000 a year. It has been replaced with a new biomass boiler which is now making about £17,000 for the order, saving significantly on previous costs.
