The National Center for Disease Control (CDC) wants people to know that heart disease is on the rise and the leading cause of death in the United States today for people of all backgrounds and ages. Studies from the American Dental Association find evidence of heart disease can be linked to a lack of proper dental care. Sally Cram, a licensed dentist and an official spokesperson for the American Dental Association states, “There are a lot of studies that suggest that oral health and gum disease in particular, are related to serious conditions like heart disease." In this matter the American Academy of Periodontology concurs that patients with “periodontal disease are almost twice as likely to have coronary artery disease.”
