Every summer, animals are subjected to fear and stress for the sake of entertainment. Rodeos are condemned by veterinarians, animal welfare agencies and ex-rodeo riders both in New Zealand and internationally. A number of countries have banned the practice, and specific events such as calf roping and steer wrestling are outlawed on the grounds that they are cruel. The animals are stressed and frightened, unaware that it’s ‘just for entertainment.’ Animals can sustain injuries such as torn ligaments, broken bones, bruising and internal damage. In some cases, these injuries are so severe the animals die or are killed on site. Crowds at rodeos are there to see the animals ‘perform’ – they are not aware of the severe handling the animals endure backstage. Rodeos present a very false image of how animals should be treated, and this needs to change. This is where SAFE comes in. Safe is a charity for animals and we're calling on the government to ban rodeos. We're also working to educate the public about the severe animal welfare issues associated with rodeos, and we need your help. You can join our campaign to end rodeo cruelty in New Zealand by donating to our cause and sharing our page here https://safe.org.nz/our-work/animals-in-aotearoa/rodeo/
