Dr. Steven Stralser was teaching in a top-ranked MBA program when he noticed an interesting phenomenon-every semester, in addition to the traditional MBA student, there would also be a few "non traditional" students, e.g., an executive from a nonprofit organization, a physician or attorney. What became clear to Dr. Stralser was that these professionals-though highly trained -were challenged by the "business" aspects of their practice or organization. Their professional training did not prepare them for the business realities that affected their success in providing professional services. While some of these well-trained professionals might enroll in an MBA program or take a course, many more would benefit from a program that delivered the same content, in a highly condensed and focused "boot camp" format. In 2000, The Center for Professional Development was incorporated as a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization to provide business tools for professionals in a manner consistent with their time-pressured schedules and needs. MISSION The Center for Professional Development is dedicated to preparing professionals to face organizational challenges with sound management training and the most current business practices and tools. In fulfilling our mission, we use leading edge teaching and learning modalities and develop products and services to meet the professional development needs of our constituency. These mission-specific activities include seminars, conferences and distance learning technology.
