With music a cultural force in Melbourne and the demand for artist development within the local community, The SoundLab was born to provide a platform for aspiring musicians or anyone wanting to express themselves as individuals by learning to play music. The SoundLab was established in 2009 by Leah Gallin. Her experience and diverse involvement began with her family business the Gallin’s Guitars retail store in 1998 on Chapel St, in Prahran. She went on to become Marketing Manager for Australian Musical Imports the distributors of the Gibson family of brands, the Gallin’s Musician’s Pro Shop and Allans Billy Hyde chain of retail outlets across Australia. Allans Music existed with over 160 years of rich musical history behind it. The former retail groups had at their peak, over fifteen retail musical instrument stores across the country which brought about the inspiration to move into music education with our flagship school The SoundLab Music School, in Prahran. Our team also facilitated five Allans Billy Hyde Academies nationally. In 2021 The SoundLab has moved to it’s exciting new location at No.1 Chapel Street, underneath the iconic Astor Theatre in Saint Kilda and is now also a musical instrument store! We are also online, so now you can learn and shop with us to satisfy all your musical pursuits.
