Gathering of Nations - Gathering of Nations

Experience

When Gathering of Nations holds its powwow this year, it will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Indian nations coming together to commemorate their native cultures. Gathering of Nations, a federally recognized non-profit organization, hosts North America’s largest powwow (or conference) to promote Native-American traditions and culture. The schedule of events runs April 25-27, 2013. The three-day annual event draws thousands of Native-American dancers, singers, entertainers, artisans, and craftspeople. The affair has gained recognition for its endeavor to promote the cultures of the various tribes, even earning a Grammy Award in the Native American music category in 2011. Founded in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and organized by the Matthews family, the Gathering of Nations also provides scholarships to worthy students attending the University of New Mexico. Other charitable works provided by the organization include sponsorship of the development of specialized computers for disabled Native-American students. The non-profit also sends kids to summer camps each year. The organization promotes its own line of merchandise available through its online store at www.gatheringofnations.com.
