After starting a new Philadelphia tradition with the Mummers Mardi Gras event, marketing director of ADVENT, Joe DeCandido recently spent time at the Quaker City String Bands, ‘String Band Serenade.’ The String Band Serenade is a long standing tradition, just like the Mummers Parade. Working to make the Mardi Gras of 2015 as best as it can be, DeCandido has been scouting various forms of additional entertainment to provide for attendees. He watched the practice before the serenade and walked down 3rd Street to see all the bands play in front of the String Band Champions clubhouse.

A new tradition started in March for The City of Brotherly Love. An event produced by ADVENT, the Piazza at Schmidts on 2nd Street welcomed the Philly Mummers and a variety of entertainment for the first-ever Mummers Mardi Gras. Complete with food vendors, entertainers, and Jacky Bam Bam of 93.3 WMMR as host, the event brought the city’s infamous Mummers and combined the theme of New Orleans’ renowned Mardi Gras to provide residents of Philadelphia with a new and exciting annual event.

As the Mummers are just two months removed from their march through the most historic city in the country, they are back to provide the city of Philadelphia with a new and exciting theme, mixing in a New Orleans tradition. This Saturday, March 1st, ADVENT is producing the city’s first Mummers Mardi Gras event. This six hour event will feature all kinds of acts from Mummers, bands, stilt walkers, magicians, dancers and more. Located on 2nd Street at the Piazza at Schmidts, the party will be hosted by Jacky Bam Bam of 93.3 WMMR Philadelphia and feature 7 bar stations, 4 food trucks, vendor and sponsor tables including Sugarhouse Casino, Freedom Taxi, Susan G Komen Philadelphia, Philabundance, Tony Luke’s and more.
