Excess fat accumulates in different areas of the body and, oftentimes, ends up in the belly area. Not only is belly fat embarrassing, but this type of fat accumulation can be very dangerous. Visceral, or fat inside the belly, packs itself around and between the internal organs, while subcutaneous fat is found just beneath the skin and acts as padding, providing insulation to help keep the body’s temperature stable. Regardless of the type of fat, carrying excess belly fat can be dangerous and can pose very significant and serious health concerns. Belly fat has been linked to cardiovascular disease, while obesity in general is a major source of diabetes, gallbladder disease and even some cancers.
