Called Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, the campaign will last through New Year's Eve and places an even greater emphasis on patrolling state roads and major interstates to keep an eye out for impaired drivers. FHP personnel and auxiliary troopers will be out in larger numbers on the Florida roads as the various holidays approach.

To avoid injuries involving pedestrians and potential death, the City of Coral Gables is aiming to reduce speed limits in many of its frequently traveled areas, breaking from the 30 miles per hour speed limit typically found in most of South Florida's residential neighborhoods. The city intends to drop speed limits to 25 miles per hour in most of its neighborhoods, while several of its gated communities will see speed limits drop to 20 miles per hour. Any neighborhoods that don't have the lower speed limits posted will default to 30 miles per hour.

There is currently no Florida law explicitly mentioning who has the right of way, but there are rules in place in terms of which driver is responsible for yielding when a traffic situation arises. In a four way stop for example, it's expected that the first driver to arrive at the stop will have the right of way. If two drivers arrive at the stop simultaneously, the driver to the right has the right of way.

Drivers should be aware that this new ruling allows cities across Miami-Dade County to continue running their red light camera programs for the time being unless or until the Florida Supreme Court re-examines the issue, makes a decision on the matter and determines otherwise.
