Specialty crops are defined as plants that are intensively cultivated. These include flowers, nursery crops, horticulture, dried fruits, tree nuts, and fruits and vegetables. A crop is considered specialty crop only when it is cultivated whereas if it is collected from the wild population will not be considered as specialty crops even though it fulfils the same requirement as cultivated plants. Some of the specialty crops include persimmons, kiwi, citrus, pomegranates, almonds, pistachios, sorghum, millets, sunflower seed, rapeseed, chickpeas canola, prairie grasses, buckwheat, Russian dandelion, mushrooms, maple sugar, amaranth, etc. The global specialty crops market is expected to grow at a significant growth rate, attributed to rapid growth of agricultural industry and high demand for ornamental crops across the globe over the forecast period.
