Cervical spine is made up of seven vertebra bodies and is separated with the help of aninter-vertebral disc. Cervical discs help in bending and side-ward movement of the neck. They also help in stabilizing the neck and act as a shock absorber. Cervical discsare damaged due to disc herniation caused by trauma or degenerative diseases. Neck pain, shoulder pain, headache, and neurological symptoms such as numbness, weakness, and radiation of pain to both arms are some of the symptoms of cervical disc herniation or degeneration. As the degenerative disc disease progresses, there is pain, less flexibility, and stiffness of the neck. Initially, cervical disc disease is treated with the help of anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, cold/heat therapy, and spine injections. However, surgical treatment is recommended when conventional treatments fail.
