Cellulose is a complex polysaccharide consisting large number of glucose units arranged linearly. Cellulose is raw material polymer used in the form of paper, cotton, board, flax etc. It is also used in production of artificial cellulose based films and threads. Nanocellulose is nano structured cellulose that includes nanocrystalline cellulose, bacterial Nanocellulose, microfibrillated cellulose. Nanocrystalline cellulose is derived from acid hydrolysis of cellulose and depends on origin and morphology of cellulose used. High strength, distinctive optical properties, nanoscale dimension, high surface area and modules are the properties enhancing its widespread applications. Nanocrystalline cellulose is rod like rigid crystals, with diameter of 10 to 20 nm. Nanocrystalline cellulose can be in the form of semisolid, liquid, gel or solid flakes.
